Experience Thailand at Weltmuseum Vienna.

What an awesome evening! Together with my friends from CARE Austria and the Weltmuseum Wien, we celebrated the beginning of my new photography exhibition “Experience Thailand” on the evening of December 5, 2018. More than 300 invited guests enjoyed the opening with the Vienna Boys Choir.

The Weltmuseum Wien is undoubtedly one of the most established cultural centers in Austria. Located in the former residence of the emperors respectively the current Federal President, the building itself has a long history. A fortiori the honor to exhibit in such a renowned museum. The exhibition “Experience Thailand” will be there for three months from the beginning of December with my reportage from the refugees in Northern Thailand.

Preparing for the photography exhibition is not easy. The ornate rooms of the Weltmuseum, mostly with marble walls, offer no big posibilities for the presentation of the framed fine art prints. Up to the last minute, I was on site myself to accompany and possibly solve all eventualities.

The photographs not only give a strong visual insight into the work of CARE in Thailand, but also invite you on a journey to a more unknown Thailand: Because with the popular holiday destination Thailand, we primarily combine sun, beach and sea. But over 1.5 million refugees from Myanmar live in Thailand as well. More than half of them have no legal status and their children can not be taught in their mother tongue. Sooner or later, many will become victims of forced labor or human trafficking.

My reportage about the life of the refugees in Northern Thailand can be seen until 26.02.2019 at the Weltmuseum Wien, after that the exhibition starts their journey to the Art & Culture Center in Bangkok.
