Behind the Scenes at WATTENRUH

Probably one of the most exciting things for a photographer is to present your work to the crowd in the form of an exhibition, at least in my opinion. The honor and recognition of being able to show one’s own photographs is part of the joy, but the joy of the work and preparation for such an exhibition is just as great. Dealing intensively with the theme, viewing and selecting the photographs and creating the formats/sizes and finally the high-quality prints is a task of a photographer that is hardly noticed by outsiders but is one of the most important components. It is not for nothing that many well-known photographers, including the folks from LEICA, say “It is only a photograph when it is printed. Before it’s just data!”

The work on my new exhibition „WATTENRUH – a photographic journey on Sylt by Alexander von Wiedenbeck“ is all the more beautiful for me, since this series was given the title of INSELKÜNSTLER 2022 by the Sylter Kunstfreunde e.V. association. A project of the association, in which every year an outstanding artist is honored with the title and in the form of a one-month exhibition in Westerland. The island of Sylt in particular, which has been very close to my heart for many years and has become a place of peace and quiet for me, but of course outside of the holiday season, makes it all the more satisfying that my photo series of this special place is appreciated.

The preparations for the one-month exhibition have been in full swing for a long time and almost 30 exhibits will be shown in the Stadtgalerie in Westerland throughout July 2022. Also included for the first time, razor-sharp, high-quality panorama fine art prints measuring 300x105cm. The expansive photographs allow the viewer to really immerse themselves in the scenario and perhaps feel a little bit of the calm that I myself have always been able to experience on Sylt.

Finally, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the great support of the Sylter Kunstfreunde e.V., as well as to my friends from LEICA Camera, as well as to HALBE frames and Hahnemühle Fine Art Papers.
