The Leica Interview – 12 Images that show the strength of Nepal´s Women.

Alexander von Wiedenbeck, a Munich and Berlin-based photographer, collaborated with CARE, a 70-year old cooperative known as the Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe to create a 2106 calendar depicting women’s strength in Nepal. Now, CARE is one of the largest aid organizations fighting global poverty, and with the creativity of von Wiedenbeck, the calendar has come to be a unique masterpiece that invites the viewer into these women’s lives.

The program intervention SAKCHAM in Nepal as part of the framework project “Claiming Rights – Promoting Gender Equality: Women’s Empowerment and male engagement for gender transformation in post-conflict and chronically food-insecure settings” is financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation and implemented in the Churla region. This project continues working with already established solidarity Groups at the village level. Poor, disadvantaged and socially excluded women benefit from this project while men and children as well as civil society organizations indirectly benefit from it. The main goal of the proposed program intervention is “to empower women and enable them politically, socially, culturally and economically to exercise and enjoy their rights.” (Taken from Sakcham – Strong Women in Nepal)
